Your Guide to Surviving Spring Pregnancy

It’s spring time! The sun is shining, the flowers are blossoming – and so is your belly!

This is arguably the best time of year to be pregnant. After all, you’re not worried about battling winter storms or sweltering in the summer heat. In the spring time, everything is coming to life, creating the perfect environment for celebrating the new life you’re bringing into the world.

Looking for ideas to help you enjoy your pregnancy? You’re in the right place! Check out the following fun tips:

1. Combine Spring Cleaning With Nesting

Spring cleaning might be the last thing you want to do while you’re busy growing a human, but, trust us, it’s much easier to do now than when you have a newborn baby. Don’t worry, you don’t have to go nuts. And you definitely shouldn’t do anything that requires heavy lifting or other things that are strenuous.

However, if you spend some time decluttering and organizing, you’ll feel much better. Simple tasks like cleaning out your kitchen will make midnight feedings much easier.

Getting rid of things you don’t need will help you make room for the plethora of baby items that will soon be coming your way. You can also start nesting by picking up the things you’ll need for your nursery.

Don’t hesitate to ask a friend or family member to come over and help. Or, if you have room in your budget, consider calling in a housekeeper or even a cleaning crew to take care of the deep cleaning. You’ll feel so much more comfortable when you know you’re bringing your new baby to a freshly cleaned home.

2. Get Outside And Enjoy The Fresh Air

Taking a walk outdoors is a great way to get some exercise without overexerting yourself. Even better, the fresh air is likely to help with any nausea you might be feeling.

There are many other benefits of getting outdoors in the spring. Getting some extra sun exposure will help you sleep better and it’s also a natural mood booster.

If you’re due soon, you’ll also want to start thinking about how to prepare for taking your newborn out in public. Of course, you’ll want to do this carefully, but when you're ready you can both enjoy the benefits of being outdoors and enjoying the spring weather.

3. Schedule A Springtime Photo Session

If you’re getting towards the end of your pregnancy, there are few things better than a springtime maternity photoshoot. Even if you’re not due until later in the year, you might consider doing it now before it gets too hot.

The beautiful weather, shining sun, and gorgeous scenery will make for a memorable day with you and your partner and will result in some stunning photos.

4. Plan A Spring-Themed Party

Now is also a great time to plan a party. There are plenty of reasons to celebrate, no matter what phase of pregnancy you’re in. You could plan a spring-themed announcement party, gender reveal, or baby shower.

The weather is usually ideal for an outside gathering. Plan to include plenty of springtime pastels and throw in some fresh spring recipes to really impress your guests.

5. Plant A Tree (Or A Garden)

One special way to prepare for the arrival of your baby is to plant a tree. Not only is this an Earth-friendly activity that you and your partner can do together, but you can enjoy watching the tree grow right along with your little one. Once he or she is old enough to understand, explain when the tree was planted and why it’s so special.

If you’re not sure you’re going to live in your current home for long, you can still enjoy spring planting by creating a garden instead. This is a fun activity you can enjoy now and after your baby is born. And, you'll love enjoying fresh vegetables you grew yourself.

6. Update Your Wardrobe

As the weather warms up, you can finally shed some of those layers and let your baby bump breathe. Look for some spring maternity dresses, stretchy tank tops, flowing cardigans, and super-comfy leggings. This will give you plenty of mix-and-match options without having to spend too much money on maternity clothes.

It’s also a good idea to ditch the cute, trendy sandals and pick up at least one pair that will give your feet the support they need to carry the extra weight. Don’t worry, you can find these in flattering styles as well!

7. Visit The Farmer’s Market

Walking around the farmer’s market is a great way to get outdoors. But, even better, it’s also the perfect place to pick up some delicious fresh spring vegetables. While it’s easy to get caught up in “eating for two,” it’s also important to get plenty of nutrients.

Luckily, things like spinach, asparagus, and avocado are at their peak during springtime. They’re packed with Folate, iron, and vitamin K – all things that are important for healthy mamas.

Also, don’t forget to pick up some springtime fruits like blueberries, strawberries, and lemons. You can use them for baking, make tasty infused water, or toss some berries on your cereal or yogurt. Pro tip: mix the spinach and a handful of berries in your morning smoothie! Yum!
